The Backstage Centre
The Backstage Centre is a versatile and flexible purpose-built rehearsal and training sound stage and facility in Essex. It is situated in Purfleet’s High House Production Park, a cultural industries business zone where the home of the Royal Opera House Set Construction workshops is located alongside a collaborative building with University Centre South Essex’s Costume Construction degree programme.

The sound stage is an 875m² temperature-controlled sound stage, designed in consultation with industry experts. It has 15m of grid height, 1000A of distributable power and a rigging capacity of 60 tonnes, it is a highly versatile space and fully equipped for professional production work with a capacity for 700 people.
Perfect for film shoots, TV commercials, arena tour rehearsals, music videos, large scale theatre and dance rehearsals. Space hire also comes with production offices, dressing rooms, laundry, break out rooms, free parking and free Wi-Fi.
A state-of-the-art 29m² recording studio for 6 people adjacent to a Live Room, with acoustic window separation between the two fully equipped with industry-standard recording equipment.
A state-of-the-art 40m² Live room with great acoustic specifications. Adjacent is a recording studio, with acoustic window separation between the two.
A state-of-the-art 78m² dance studio for 24 performers. The dance studio has a barre, mirrored wall and sprung floor for performance rehearsal work. It can also double up as a great function space and has a custom fit carpet to cover the dance floor if required.
Located in the foyer at the Backstage Centre is a tour supply shop where you can find all the consumables you will need while on the road such as tape, batteries, cables and more. Currently only available at the centre with a new online shop coming soon.
Other spaces located within the backstage centre include a Greenroom, Cafe Bar, multi-purpose upper and lower foyer spaces, three dressing rooms, office facilities with direct access to the soundstage as well first aid facilities. You can find details and specs on all spaces below.
